these are images from the book “i am a bunny” by ole risom - because it is almost easter and, as most of my acquaintances know, i tend to heavily identify with small woodland creatures (in a few exceptional dimensions, including general cave-sleep techniques and mate-finding tactics based on smell). besides that, i love to know that kids are still reading books that look like this. possibly, being so big, it has become a more daily fantasy that i am a tiny thing overwhelmed by many myriad giant things. at heart i am, indeed, a bunny.

“Secret of the Andes” is a children’s chapter book I picked up (for a dollar) because the illustrations were articulated by Jean Charlot, one of my hands-down favorite guys. Great coincidence that he hung around our parts, doing murals in Kalihi and having dinner parties. Also tramped around the browner parts of the Americas to get a little information on light in the Andes, the kind of travel that seems executed with a logician’s hand, ocean-goers meet mountain-growers. This image, one of the few in the book, reminds me how I love rigidly stylized images of lost Incan boys just trynna get by in a Spain trampled Peru.
